YETI - Tundra 45 Configurator

Overview

Tundra 45 Configurator allows users to configure and personalize the Tundra 45 hard Cooler with different cooler base color, Trim Kit, and compatible accessories at once, on a 3D platform where users can freely rotate and try out different options. It brings unique and engaging experience to the users educate more on Tundra 45 Hard Cooler. Worked with external company, ThreeKit, for the design and build. I was in charge of giving them the design direction from YETI team, to keep the design on brand, and experience on brand. We had multiple rounds of working sessions, collaborating and communicating to really make this experience shine.

As a UX/UI Designer at YETI, I have been working on variety of site wide projects that consumers experience for the brand. I was in charge of the ideation, design/development specification. Worked closely with developers throughout the build and QA sessions. Worked closely with the Senior Manager UIUX Designer for the advise.

The Design

The ultimate goal for this project was to allow users to customize their Tundra 45 hard cooler and create a fun and engaging user experience while doing it. users can freely rotate the 3D CAD model of Tundra 45 Hard Cooler and see it at any angle, with dynamic interactions and animation. It allows users to select the cooler base color, the Trim Kit color and add accessories. Users can zoom in and out, rotate, see dimensions in Inches and Centimeter, open and close lid, and share the configuration with others. This was a long-term project which required lots of rounds of ideation, collaboration with various teams (Brand, Ecomm, ThreeKit, Merch and more stakeholders), design, image assets, and prototyping. This has been live and the engagement rate is high.

Color Tab

Users can select the base cooler color and it will update on the preview accordinly.

Trim Kit Tab

Users can select the Trim Kit color and it will update on the preview accordingly. Trim Kit is the handle and latches.

Accessories Tab

Users can select compatible accessories as options and it will update on the preview accordingly. Users can see accessories with the lid opened and closed.

Cooler Lid Open / Close Toggle

Users can open and close the lid and it will still allow users to freely rotate and see accessories with the lid opened and closed. it allows more realistic product view.

Dimensions

Users can see dimensions as they rotate the cooler model. Users can also toggle between inches and centimeters.

Takeaways

It was one of my biggest project at YETI and I was able to learn more about collaboration our team and external team. Giving design direction and preserving the brand identity and experience at best, to stay true to the brand as collaborating with other company, but making it premium. I was able to improve my collaboration skills, presentation skills, and communication skills. Also enhanced my user centric design skills by brainstorming the user flow, research, user testing and design along side. It was super fun project that I really enjoyed because I love to design fun and engaging interaction design. I will keep move forward and use these knowledge I learned from this project in future projects.
