Epitome
Project Overview
Epitome is a gaming review and socializing app. Epitome brings gamers together and provide them with a platform where they could get information about games, communicate with each other, and form communities with similar interests. To do this, we decided to incorporate the review/ rating system with the communication system. Gamers would be able to leave reviews about various games classified by the compatible device. Not only that, each individual will have a profile/ library with the reviews and ratings written, and this would enable gamers to look up for information about what their friends or community members (gamers who play together or have similar interests) think about other games. Through this process, gamers would be able to access information about the games they might have not yet played but might be interested and find the ‘optimal’ game they want to play. With the information on the libraries collected, it would also be possible to show lists and ratings of games that have positive responses among several members in communities or group chats with friends.

The Problem
Nowadays, there are so many different types of games and different platforms of games out in the markets. As there are more platforms we could use, the more games are released for us to play, but now there are too many options. With these various options, how do people find their “optimal game”, the “preferred genre game”, the “ best fit game” for each user? How could we discover the “optimal” games we want to play? And would there be any other easier ways to learn about these games?
The Mission
Our goal is to bring gamers together and provide them with a platform where they could get information about games, communicate with each other, and form communities with similar interests.
Design Process
Research
Secondary Research
Our secondary research helped us to have a general understanding of the current gaming markets and the current trends. People are available to access more gaming devices such as PC, VR, Consoles, Hand- Held, and Mobile, and this allowed gaming companies to produce more games. Now days, the current trending gaming platform is mobile, and there are a lot more games being made for mobile only. Many big companies are also making the mobile games. Overall, we were able to find that there are so many different types of games in the market and it is even growing.
Primary Research
We conducted the user survey and interviews after the secondary research. From the surveys, we found that there are a lot of different users who play on different gaming devices, their gaming routine/ habits, their tastes/types/genres of games, and how they communicate with others when gaming. From the interviews, we found that they find gaming reviews just by googling, watching YouTube videos, or asking friends. They all have different ways to find reviews when they try to look up new games. We also found that many gamers play with their friends and many of them uses voice chat to communicate.
Data Analysis
After the research, we then analyzed all the information we collected from the user survey and interviews. We discussed the information and organized them, and came up with the problem statement, mission statement, User Pain Points, Needs, User Personas, and User Journey Maps. Due the current situation, all meetings were through zoom.
